Add Google Forms respondents to your email list

Paste a short script into your Google Form and every response, from people who say they want your emails, is added to a ConvertNow list.

The ConvertNow Google Forms integration adds people who answer your Google Form to a ConvertNow list, using a short Apps Script you paste into the form. The script signs each response with a secret so only your form can add contacts.

Google Forms has no webhook of its own, so the script is how the response reaches ConvertNow. ConvertNow writes it for you with your address and secret already filled in.

Step by step

Six steps, about ten minutes.

1

Open the Google Forms card

In ConvertNow, open Integrations in the sidebar and choose Google Forms.

2

Connect a form

Give the connection a name, choose the list respondents join, and decide whether to add only people who answer Yes to a consent question.

3

Copy the script

Click Connect. ConvertNow shows an Apps Script with your address and secret inside. Copy it.

4

Open the script editor

In your Google Form, click the three dots and choose Script editor. Paste the script over everything in the file and save.

5

Add the trigger

In the script editor open Triggers, add a trigger for the function onFormSubmit with the event type On form submit, and approve the permissions Google asks for.

6

Send a test response

Submit your form once. The connection in ConvertNow shows the first response arriving.

What ConvertNow does, and does not do

A short, exact list, so you know what happens to your contacts' details.

Adds respondents when they submit the form

Reads the email question and picks up names from questions titled like "First name", "Last name" or "Full name"

With consent on, adds only people who answer Yes to, or tick, a consent question such as "Send me updates"

Signs every response so a forged request is rejected

Never re-subscribes someone who has unsubscribed or bounced

Puts each person on the list you choose

Gives every connection its own secret address

Frequently asked questions

Does my form need to collect emails?

Yes. Add an Email question, or turn on Google's collect email addresses setting.

Why do I have to approve permissions?

The script needs permission to send the response to ConvertNow from your Google account. It sends only the answers to your form.

What if I edit the form later?

New questions work automatically. If you rename the email or consent question, make sure it still reads like one.

What if someone has unsubscribed before?

A response never re-subscribes them.
